From November 25, 2023, the permanent installation of the artist Tomás Saraceno opens to the public in the church of Madonna del Carmine - Palazzo Lanfranchi, arriving in Matera with a project from the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation in collaboration with the National Museum of Matera.

Saraceno's repeated stays in Matera, which began nine years ago and culminated in July 2022 with a visit to the National Museum of Matera and the church of Madonna del Carmine - located inside Palazzo Lanfranchi Museum - have favored the inspiration that led to the creation of Life(s) of Webs, arachnophobias, arachnophilias, and other stories.

La Giuliana degli Abissi

The exhibition dedicated to the Whale Giuliana is composed of four rooms. The first one is dedicated to the discovery of the fossil and the stages of the difficult recovery. After the excavation, completed in 2011, the remains of the animal were consolidated, fractioned into blocks, protected with plaster shirts, and placed inside custom-made wooden crates protected by expanded clay and polyurethane foam packaging. All the crates were transported to the Matera headquarters of the then Superintendence for Artistic and Historical Heritage of Basilicata, where they remained until 2013 when they were transferred to the National Archaeological Museum "D. Ridola" in Matera.

The exhibition "Travolti. The human being in the graphic works of Luigi Guerricchio," on display in the Sala delle Arcate, aims to reconstruct a story about the human being, his identity, his presence, through the work dedicated to graphic languages such as etchings, woodcuts, lithographs, engravings, etc., by Luigi Guerricchio. An anthropological and sociological journey that immerses the viewer in the faces of a bygone era, those of the twentieth century, which the artist from Matera has traversed and investigated with a unique and significant vision.
